Music

One of the dynamic ministries at Saint Malachy’s, the Choi2009 Christmas Concertr is comprised of volunteer singers with various backgrounds and musical experience. It is open to anyone with a passion for singing and a desire to learn excellent choral music. Its repertoire consists of a rich selection of choral polyphonic choral anthems, Gregorian Chant (sung in the original neumes) and harmonized (“Anglican”) Chant.

The Choir sings at the 11 AM Mass every Sunday from September through May. It reunites during the summer for the Feast of the Assumption, on August 15. It is also a major part of the Christmas and Holy Week liturgies. The weekly rehearsals are Thursday evenings 6:30 - 8:15 PM and also meets on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM prior to the 11:00 AM Mass. Members have the opportunity to serve as cantors at the other weekend masses.

Besides adding beautiful music to the weekly liturgies, the Choir occasionally presents special musical programs. The choir regularly performs in a popular, annual Christmas program at St. Malachy's, featuring a heartwarming assortment of favorite Christmas carols, popular seasonal music, and musical theatre excerpts. The Choir also participates in the annual Blessing of Artists ceremony celebrating all artistic disciplines in ecumenical prayer and dramatic presentation.
