Religious Education for students in grades K through 8 is offered in five classes: Pre-Communion, First Holy Communion, Faith Formation, Pre-Confirmation, and Confirmation. The general curriculum in grades K-7 includes an in-class lesson in addition to a take-home lesson. Parents are encouraged to participate and help with the take-home lessons in our grades K-4 level classes.
The program also offers Community Outreach initiatives such as making Valentines for the Senior Citizens at the Encore Center, sending Mother's Day Care Packages for the incarcerated residents of the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, and making and delivering sandwiches for the hungry to the Common Pantry in East Harlem. In addition, we put on an acclaimed yearly Christmas Pageant under the guidance of Dr. Stephen Fraser, Director of Music.
Our Religious Education Program is unique. Most children come from many different neighborhoods in New York City. Our prime location and vibrant parish life are attractive to families. This is reflected in the surprising number of young families and children that call St. Malachy's their spiritual home.
All Religious Education catechists are volunteers. Every class is planned with great care and attention. Our top priority is to provide a rewarding Religious Education experience for all involved. All our teachers have undergone a thorough background check to ensure a safe environment.
